Topic 5: Atmospheric composition and climate: Interactions from global to regional scales

(FZJ, KIT, GFZ, AWI, DLR) What are the important factors determining interactions between regional climate change and atmospheric composition? What are the potential impacts of climate change and air quality changes on human health and ecosystems?  The global atmospheric composition-climate system  encompasses many scales and feedbacks. Topic 5 explores the full chain of global to regional challenges through the use of models and atmospheric observations. For example, chemical budgets are investigated as well as stratosphere-troposphere exchange, tropopause structure and aerosol impacts on the global scale. On smaller scales one focus is placed on the interactions of clouds, precipitation and composition. Another topic is the urban environment and its impact on composition and climate, in particular with respect to urban heat stresses and air quality, and their impacts on humans and ecosystems.
Further information on Topic 5 is available in German.
