Topic 4: The land surface in the climate system

What are the regional impacts of climate change on the ecosystem, water resources, agriculture, forestry and how do these in turn influence the climate? The chain of cause and effect between physical, chemical and biological processes  at the intersection of the atmosphere and land surface is still not completely understood, but it represents a key role for improved predictions of regional characteristics caused by climate change and its effects for humans. In the environmental observatories of the TERENO network, the data basis for process understanding and improved predictions of the next generation of regional climate models are developed.
